Who is LOAA? We are an energized and inspired group of alumni who graduated from the Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Oakland program. LOAA has been connecting alumni since 2012 with a variety of networking, development and volunteer opportunities. LOAA is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization.
What does LOAA do? LOAA creates a unique pathway to capitalize on the common experience and passions of those completing the Leadership Oakland program. We offer opportunities to build your network, develop your professional and leadership skillset, and make an impact in your community.
Why do we exist? Our mission is to connect, engage, and continue to develop the alumni of Leadership Oakland to make a positive change for a more inclusive and equitable Oakland community.
Who qualifies for membership? Anyone who completed the Oakland (California) Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Oakland program automatically earns free Bronze membership in LOAA.
What do I receive with a Bronze Membership? Bronze members receive invites to networking happy hours and professional development events, access to Facebook and LinkedIn groups, our alumni newsletter, and regular email updates from LOAA.
What is a Premium Membership? Premium membership offers exclusive benefits for alumni who pay dues to support LOAA. These benefits include access to our online alumni directory, discounts to events, and special recognition at events and on the website. Gold members receive free admission to all LOAA events, and Silver members receive event discounts. Planned events and activities are listed on our website and are subject to change.
How does LOAA use member dues? As a volunteer-led organization, your membership dollars are crucial, helping to sustain alumni activities and technology that integrates our membership, event, financial, and website management functions.
Are membership dues, donations or sponsorships tax-deductible? As a 501(c)(6) organization, payments to the Leadership Oakland Alumni Association are not tax-deductible as a charitable contribution, but may be deductible as a business expense. We do not engage in any lobbying activity, nor apportion any funds for that purpose. Please consult your tax advisor for guidance.
How is LOAA managed? LOAA is run by an entirely volunteer board. The board meets monthly to plan, organize and execute the mission of the organization.
Where can I find more information and get the latest updates from LOAA? In addition to the website, we send periodic emails, post on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages and groups, and send newsletters.
How do I access the searchable alumni directory? The alumni directory is located under Premium Member Content and is exclusively available to Silver and Gold premium members. Though Bronze members do not have access, Bronze member profiles are available in the directory.
How do I create or update my profile? All alumni have the ability to update their profile, regardless of membership level. Click on the icon located on the upper right corner of your screen, and log in with your email and password. If you’re signing on for the first time, click “forgot password” to receive a temporary password via email. There, you can update your contact information, set privacy and email preferences, add a profile photo and links to your social and business pages. If you need help editing your profile, please email us and we'd be happy to assist you.
How can I get more involved in LOAA? We’d love to have you more involved! We are looking for dedicated alumni to serve on one of our committees, or to be a Class Representative. Additionally, we can always use volunteers to help out with tasks from time to time on an ad hoc basis. Please email us to express your interest.
